BioFuel Projects Around the State

Proposed Imperium Renewables Inc. Plant (100 million gallons per year) Not sustainable.

Proposed BlueEarth Biodiesel Plant (To supply MECO & HECO with 120 million gallons of generator fuel per year). Not sustainable.

Pacific Biodiesel - Uses waste cooking oil and supplies transportation biodiesel and a small amount of biodiesel for generation. Sustainable.

10% Ethanol Required in Gas. Imported ethanol makes this Not sustainable. Additionally ethanol production from corn uses almost as much fossil fuel and just burning the fossil fuel directly. (Note the picture could be different if locally grown sugarcane were used)

The Hawaiian BioDiesel Project of Wai‘anae Moku is applying for a USDA grant to prove the viability of an integrated system for growing bio fuel, making biodiesel and using the waste products from the process to generate electricity that is used by the process. Sustainable.
